The Karnataka state originated on Nov. 1, 1956 situated in south- west region of India. Earlier this state was known as State of Mysore and in 1973 its name changed to Krnataka. The administration of District Police lies in the hands of Superintendent of Police and Commissioner of Police leads the Police Administration in Bangalore city. The (IGP) Inspector General of Police controls the groups of districts under one range.The head of the Police Department in this state, (DGP & IGP), Director General of Police and Inspector General of Police.Three to six districts comes under one range and Superintendent of Police leads each district. Under Police Department, police stations stands as lowest functional units, headed by Inspectors in towns and cities. The Police Stations situated in rural areas, are controlled by one or two Sub – Inspectors, depending on crimes or law & order there. The Intelligence Wing is under the control of officer of the rank of Additional Director General of Police and same is the case with Crime & Technical Services Wing. Karnataka Police ACP/ DSP recruitment 2016
The recruitments of State Police Services are under the control of State Government. The candidates selected for State Police Services are assigned the ranks of Assistant Commissioner of Police or Deputy Superintendent of Police and many more. The Karnataka Government conducts the examination under State Public Service Commission (SSPSC). This examination pattern is based on the same pattern of IPS. The State Police Officer is segregated into two categories: * Gazette Officers & Non- Gazette Officers. These two posts come under Gazette Officers. KPSC recruitment announced 440 posts of Gazetted Officers having vacancies of 55 posts for Assistant Commissioner of Police and 38 posts of Deputy Superintendent of Police.
